Day 1 – Sun, Nov 3, 2024: Early morning arrivals in Cairo. Welcome meeting. Dashur Pyramids – Red Pyramid, Bent Pyramid, Black Pyramid. Visit Memphis (the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom). See a huge statue of Ramesses II, the Alabaster Sphinx, and other artifacts found in this area.
Hotel: Pyramids area hotel-1. D.

Day 2 – Monday: Saqqara Complex – Step Pyramid, Southern Tomb, Unas Pyramid, New Kingdom tombs, Tomb of Maya, Teti Pyramid, Tomb of Mereruka, Tomb of the Doctor, Serapeum. (the Imhotep Museum is closed). Local Carpet weavers (if there is interest).

Day 3 – Tuesday: Private visit inside the Great Pyramid with all 3 chambers open to our small group of 10 travelers. Afterwards, visit the Giza Plateau – 3 Giza Pyramids, Mortuary Temples of Khafre and Menkaure, camel rides (if you like), Sphinx and Valley Temple.

Day 4 – Wednesday: Visit the Luxor Temple and Luxor Museum. Egyptian-motif jewelry shop, papyrus demonstration, and street bazaar (if you would like).

Day 5 – Thursday: Day-long bus trip to Abydos – Temple of Seti I, Temple of Ramesses II. Temple for the Goddess Hathor at Dendera.

Day 6 – Friday: Visit Karnak Temple Complex – Open Air museum, Red Chapel, White Chapel, Chapel of Ptah & Sekhmet, Akhmenu, Botanical Garden, Sacred Lake, Temple of Ramesses III, and more.

Day 7 – Saturday: Optional Balloon Ride over the West Bank. Afterwards, visit the West Bank sites – Temple of Hatshepsut, Colossi of Memnon, Valley of the Kings, and visit with village children.

Day 8 – Sunday: Tombs of the Nobles, Ramesseum Temple,  Valley of the Workers Tombs & Hathor Temple.

Day 9 – Monday:  Tomb of Queen Nefertari (if it has reopened), Medinet Habu Temple. Begin our private Nile Cruise on our private dahabiya.
Dahabiya Cruise Boat – 1. BB, L, D.

Day 10 – Tuesday: Go through the lock at Esna and visit the Esna Temple. Sail to Edfu.
Dahabiya Cruise Boat – 2. BB, L, D.

Day 11 – Wednesday: Visit the Edfu Temple of Horus. Sail to Silsila.
Dahabiya Cruise Boat – 3. BB, L, D.

Day 12 – Thursday: Visit the sites at Gebel el-Silsila – the quarry where the blocks that built the temples were cut, Horemheb Temple. Afternoon visit to the Kom Ombo Temple for Gods Sobek and Haroeris (Horus the Elder), and the mummified crocodile museum.
Dahabiya Cruise Boat – 4. BB, L, D.

Day 13 – Friday: Disembark from our private dahabiya.
Visit the archeological site on Elephantine Island, a spice shop, and the Aswan street bazaar.
Optional alternative, not included, (price TBD): Abu Simbel Temples by road.
Hotel: Obelisk, Basma, or similar Aswan Hotel. BB, L.

Day 14 – Saturday: Visit the granite quarry with the unfinished obelisk of Hatshepsut. Visit the Philae Goddess Isis Temple. Flight from Aswan to Cairo.
Hotel: Novotel Cairo Airport, or similar. BB, L, D.

Day 15 – Sunday: If the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has opened, we will visit it. If not, we will visit the Cairo Egyptian Museum and the NMEC (with the royal mummies).

Brief Day-by-Day Itinerary*

Day 1 – Wed, January 1, 2025: Arrivals in Cairo. You are met at Cairo Airport, assisted with your arrival, and brought to our hotel near the pyramids. Early morning arrivals by people flying direct nonstop from New York (JFK) & Washington, DC, Dulles (IAD). Arrivals of nonstop flights from Newark (EWR) are one day earlier.
Hotel: Pyramids area hotel – 1. No meals.

Day 2 – Thurs, January 2, 2025:  Visit the Dashur Pyramids – Red Pyramid & Bent Pyramid. After lunch visit the Saqqara Complex with Step Pyramid complex and Teti Pyramid. Extra entrance tickets included: Step Pyramid (underneath), Unas Pyramid, and Tomb of Mereruka.
Hotel: Pyramids area hotel – 2. BB, L.

Day 3 – Friday: Private visit inside the Great Pyramid of Giza with all 3 chambers open. Visits to other pyramids that are open, camel rides (if you would like), the Great Sphinx & Valley Temple.
Flight from Cairo to Luxor.

Day 4 – Saturday: Optional Balloon Ride over the West Bank of Luxor. Visit Karnak Temple – Open Air Museum with the Red Chapel & White Chapel, Chapel of Ptah & Sekhmet, Akhmenu, and more. See how papyrus “paper” is made. Egyptian jewelry shop.
Late afternoon visit to the Luxor Temple.

Day 5 – Sunday: Visits to sites on Luxor’s West Bank. Tomb of Queen Nefertari (if it has reopened), Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s Deir El Bahari, Colossi of Memnon. Meet village children. Begin our private Nile Cruise boat.
Cruise Boat: Sacred Lotus Dahabiya – 1. BB, L, D.

Day 6 -Monday: Sailing to Esna on our private Nile Cruise boat. Go through the lock at Esna. Visit the newly restored Esna Temple.

Day 7 – Tuesday: Visit the Silsila Horemheb Temple with the quarry where the blocks that built the temples were cut. Visit Kom Ombo. Includes the Mummified Crocodile Museum.

Day 8 – Wednesday: Optional Abu Simbel visit or a gentle day of sailing from Kom Ombo to Aswan.

Day 9 – Thursday: Visit a Spice Shop in Aswan. Afternoon visit to the Philae Temple of the Goddess Isis. Evening flight from Aswan to Cairo.

Day 10 – Friday, January 10, 2025: Visit the Cairo Egyptian Museum or the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) if it has opened. Those flying nonstop to IAD depart at 11:55pm. Nonstop to JFK leaves at 3:10am (Tuesday, March 5, 2024). Some travelers may need to add an extra night if their flights leave in the morning of Saturday, January 11, 2025.

The “Highlights” Tour is designed for those who fly nonstop from Washington Dulles (IAD) or NY (JFK) to Cairo, leaving the USA on Saturday and arriving back in the USA the next Saturday. This gives you 6 full days of touring in Egypt (Sunday-Friday). From other destinations, add another night at the beginning and end (= 8 days).

Depart on Saturdays via Egypt Air nonstop from Washington, DC, Dulles Airport (IAD) or NY (JFK). You arrive in Cairo at 4:30 or 4:40am on Sunday and depart Cairo at 11:55pm on Friday and arrive in IAD on Saturday. Or depart at 3:10am Saturday and arrive in NY on Saturday morning.

Day 1 – Sunday: 5::30am & 5:40am arrivals in Cairo by people who flew direct nonstop from New York (JFK) & Washington, DC (IAD), Dulles. Breakfast at the Meridien Airport Hotel. Sightseeing at the Saqqara Complex. Flight from Cairo to Luxor.

Day 2 – Monday:

11:55pm departures home for people who are flying nonstop from Cairo to Washington, DC (IAD) with Egypt Air. Lufthansa flights are at 2:00am. Flights to NY leave at 3:10am. Some people may need to add a hotel night if their flights leave on Saturday morning.
